Governor's Commission on Service and Volunteerism (GCOSV)
Board responsibilities
- Reviews and approves all AmeriCorps State funding in Maryland.
- Serves as ambassadors for service and volunteerism.
- Applies for federal and state funding to support service initiatives.
- Oversees Maryland’s AmeriCorps programs in accordance with the National and Community Service Trust Act of 1993.
- Develops and updates a three-year strategic plan for service in Maryland.

Maryland Corps Advisory Board
About The Maryland Corps Advisory Board
The Maryland Corps Advisory Board provides strategic direction and support to the Maryland Corps/Service Year Option programs. Its primary mission is to ensure these programs successfully foster civic engagement, expand service opportunities for young adults, and contribute to meaningful community development across Maryland.
Board responsibilities
- Advises the Maryland Department of Service and Civic Innovation (DSCI) on program goals, structure, and outreach.
- Assists in the development of policies and best practices that support youth engagement and service-based learning.
- Offers recommendations on funding strategies, program partnerships, and long-term sustainability.
- Reviews and evaluates the performance and impact of the Programs to ensure continuous improvement and effectiveness.
- Collaborates with educational institutions, nonprofit organizations, and government entities to enhance program outcomes.
Board composition
Appointed by the Governor, Senate President, and House Speaker, the Advisory Board is a diverse body serving staggered terms. Membership includes:
- Sector Experts: Specialists in youth service, education, workforce development, and community engagement.
- Government: Representatives from state and local agencies.
- Industry Leaders: Executives from nonprofit, philanthropic, and private organizations.
- Alumni: Individuals with lived experience in service programs.
